What is a Learning Pod?

Learning Pods are small, in-person, multi-age groupings of students in an anxiety-sensitive environment that allows children to stabilize, rekindle curiosity and accelerate learning so that they may catch up with their peers. Generally, a Prenda Learning Pod has between 5–10 students in grades K-2, 3-5 or 6-8 groupings.

The learning system, which is aligned to the New Hampshire academic standards, focuses on empowering learners through three different mastery and project-based learning modes each day: Conquer, Collaborate and Create.

The Department of Education, in partnership with participating NH public school districts, communities and Prenda, has developed Learning Pods to address learning loss due to the pandemic.

Small, in-person groups that accelerate learning

Eligible students’ participation in the program will be prioritized as follows:

  • Priority 1: Students with a documented disability and students from families earning less than 250% of the federal poverty can participate in the summer enrichment program on a first-come, first-served basis until 75% of the program allocation ($1.5 million) is drawn down or 30 days after the application period, whichever comes first
  • Priority 2: At that point, students from families earning less than 400% of the federal poverty are also eligible on a first-come, first-served basis until the entire program allocation is drawn down
  • Priority 3: Additional GEER funds allocations will be sought if demand for the program is strong

In partnership with districts and communities, Prenda will utilize grant funds on a per-pupil basis to serve Learning Pod enrolled students.

During this time, the student will remain enrolled at their district school for purposes of adequacy determination. The Department will provide payment directly to Prenda for the provision of District and Community Learning Pod programming based on the number of enrolled students on the payment date.

District Learning Pod

Any New Hampshire public school district (LEA) serving students in grades K-8 is eligible to apply for participation. Districts may also join together to offer Learning Pods that would include students across multiple districts.

Community Learning Pod

Communities may also apply to serve eligible students, particularly if the eligible students served do not have access to a District Learning Pod.
